Our Team | Vlad Portnoy
Vlad Portnoy represents many of the firm's private clients as 'of counsel' in matters related to Elder Law, Trusts, Estates, Business and International Law, with particular emphasis on Elder Law, Guardianship, Medicaid and Medicare planning and succession planning.
Prior to starting his own practice, Mr. Portnoy had previously served as a General Counsel in a New York branch of a European global marketing company. Before that Mr. Portnoy provided alternative dispute resolution for both private and corporate clients in New York and New Jersey, getting his mediation training at Better Business Bureau in New York City. Mr. Portnoy is certified by the New York State Court System as a court translator for Russian-speaking litigants.
Mr. Portnoy is a member of and an active participant in Elder Law and Trusts and Estates sections of New York State Bar Association; he is a member of American Bar Association, New York City Bar Association, New York County Bar Association and Brooklyn Bar Association. He is currently serving as Secretary for New York City Bar's Committee on Legal Problems of the Aging (Elder Law). Mr. Portnoy is admitted to practice in New York, New Jersey and in United States District Court for the District of New Jersey. He volunteers his time as a Board member with a number of not-for-profits, which include Russian Speaking Business Attorneys of New York (RUSBAN), Discovery Times Square Foundation (in partnership with Discovery Museum Times Square), as well as Carroll Gardens Association, a historic affordable housing and community development organization in Brooklyn, New York.
Mr. Portnoy is a frequent lecturer on estate planning and elder law with various non-profit organizations and financial planning firms. He also makes frequent guest appearance on the Brooklyn-based Russian radio station, Danu Radio, 87.7 FM to educate the community on the aspects of estate planning, assets protection and government benefit entitlement programs.
